Lynda Carter
Carter was born in Phoenix (Arizona) as the daughter of Juanita Cordova and Colby Carter. Her father is of English and has Scots Irish ancestry as is her mother, who is Mexican and Spanish. She is the sibling of Vincent, a brother, and Pamela, a sister. Carter aged five made her public television debut at Lew King's Talent Show. Carter was a member of Just Us in high school. The group performed marimba, a conga drum and an acoustic guitar and a stand-up bass , which was played by another girl in the group. Lynda began to sing at a local pizzeria when she was just 15. After age 16 years old, Lynda joined two of her cousins to form another bandcalled The Relatives. Gary Burghoff, actor, was the drummer for the group. The band opened in Las Vegas at the Sahara Hotel & Casino Lounge. Carter was 21 years old when she joined the kitchen. She was named "Most gifted" and decided to go into the world of music. Carter auditioned in 1970 and did a tour with The Garfin Gathering's bandleader Howard (Speedy), Garfin. Their first performance took place at the Holiday Inn Chinatown in San Francisco, which was so new , it did not have a sidewalk entry. They played mostly to hotel staff and guests of the hotel who parked their cars in the underground garage. The Garfin Gathering played shows in many Nevada casinos, such as those between Lake Tahoe, Carson City and Reno. Carter was able to quit the Garfin Gathering in 1972 to pursue acting. She then went back to Arizona.
